FAQ

What is a wedding planner/consultant/coordinator?

Bridal consultant, wedding planner, event coordinator, etc…  All of these titles are often interchangeable and refer to the same professional that is there to help you with the planning and execution of your wedding day.  At Blackbird Events, we use Wedding Coordinator.  A wedding coordinator has many roles, but essentially uses their professional training and expertise to help make your wedding day as close to perfection as possible.

What are the benefits of hiring a wedding coordinator?

Planning a wedding, while a fun an exciting adventure, does require an enormous amount of time and energy.  A professional coordinator can help guide you through the process and can take on many administrational tasks allowing their clients to be as stress free as possible. A wedding coordinator has experience in planning weddings and can help you navigate through a whole new world of needs, requirements, etiquette and even language (boutonniere, bustle, MOH, videography, tulle, to name a few)!    From helping you identify the overall vision of your day  and planning the allocation of your budget, to enticing your ring bearer down the aisle at your ceremony, a coordinator can really help give you peace of mind throughout one of the most important events of your life.

Can’t I do all the planning myself?

Absolutely!  Many couples thoroughly enjoy planning parties and events and relish the thought of making their own dream wedding day come true!  A wedding coordinator is not there to “take over” your day and really wants to work WITH you to create YOUR perfect event.  Even if you do not need full planning services, consider that a lot of effort is required to execute a wedding on the wedding day.  Instead of relying on friends and family to pull off all the details, why not let them enjoy your wedding too and hire a professional 'Day of' coordinator to make sure everything is taken care of?

Can I afford a coordinator?

Many people call their wedding day, “the most important day of my life.”  Indeed it is a grand occasion that signifies the union of two individuals into a lifelong partnership.  To this end, weddings are an investment in the celebration of this considerable event and have cultural significance spanning thousands of years. Full planning services at Blackbird Events represent 10% of your total budget and should certainly be included in your budget (not as an “extra” amount).  This is an investment towards ensuring the most important day of your life runs as smoothly as possible.

How can I be sure you won’t try to increase my wedding budget so that you receive a higher fee?

As a coordinator, MY JOB is to ensure that a couple stays on track with their set out wedding budget.  I hold myself to a high standard of ethics and would never purposefully encourage a couple to spend beyond their means or comfort.  A couple has full control over what their wedding costs and certainly has the choice to make changes to their budget at any time they wish, but as a wedding coordinator, I will be sure to work within the budget provided and make recommendations accordingly.

Do you accept kickbacks?

Never.  It would be entirely unethical for me or any other Wedding professional to accept a kickback from any service provider or vendor.  If a vendor offers me a discount or incentive to use their service, I would decline or immediately pass on that discount to the couple I am working for.

You are certified by the Wedding Planners Institute of Canada (WPIC). Why should this be important to me?

Hiring a certified wedding coordinator ensures that you are working with someone who has formal education in the wedding industry and has access to an extensive alumni association where the best practices and ideas within the industry are shared.  As a WPIC Certified coordinator, I am held to high standards and a code of ethics that includes (from the WPIC Code of Ethics):
  •  We do not accept kickbacks (money for referrals) from vendors. Vendors must know that the clients are the recipients of any discounts given.
  • We treat each client fairly, and we will be honest and upfront in the representation of our clients.
  • We uphold our ethics. We will not take or attempt to take clients from, or discredit, other vendors with gossip or slander.
  • Every client will receive a detailed contract for Wedding Day Direction, Destination or Full Wedding Coordination services.
  • We will provide all services agreed upon in the contract that must be signed by both the client and Coordinator at the commencement of service.
  • We believe in continuous education, networking and training within the Wedding Industry.
  • Our pricing is upfront and industry comparable.
  • We will make every effort to return calls and emails in a timely manner. (Within 48 hrs.)
  • We always endeavour to benefit our client and not ourselves. Vendors are suggested on merit, in the best interests of the client, not ourselves or the vendor suggested.
  • We cannot guarantee your wedding will be perfect, but we can guarantee we will do everything within our power to make sure it is as close to perfection as it can be.
